[ return to The Race Track ]

The sport of live horse racing in St. Kitts dates back to 1924, when horse racing was conducted at the Sandown Race Course in Ponds Pasture. Now almost a century later, live horse racing will resume at Beaumont Park in Dieppe Bay.

Beaumont Park’s vision is to become, “the premier horse and greyhound racing track in the Caribbean”. This new racing facility is presently under construction at Beaumont Estate, located on the White Gate lands and is scheduled to open in 2008.

The facility includes 6 stables each containing 20 stalls and over 400 greyhound kennels. The circumference of the thoroughbred race track is a 6 furlong or ¾ mile oval track with two chutes, one at the south-western measuring an additional ¼ mile and the other on the north-eastern end allowing for a 5 furlong race.
The size of the greyhound race track on the other hand allows for a 1/4mile race.
